No good deed goes unpunished in the trailer for “Greta.” The thriller sees Chloë Grace Moretz playing Frances, a kind young woman new to New York City. One fateful day she finds a purse left behind by someone on the subway. The Good Samaritan uses an ID card in the bag to contact its owner, who welcomes Frances into her home. A lonely widow living in a foreign land, Greta (Isabelle Huppert) is grateful to have her purse back but more grateful for Frances’ company.
The trailer shows Frances and Greta bonding at the cinema, over tea, and in the kitchen. Their flourishing friendship comes to a halt when Frances makes a shocking discovery — a cupboard full of purses identical to the one she returned to Greta, who has been luring unsuspecting do-gooders into her life by leaving purses with IDs like breadcrumbs around the city.
When Frances tells Greta that she doesn’t want to see her again, all hell breaks loose. “Everyone needs a friend, but we’re more than friends,” says Greta. Check out the trailer to see her launch a full-blown stalking campaign to get Frances’ attention.
Moretz’s recent credits include the “Suspiria” remake and Desiree Akhavan’s “The Miseducation of Cameron Post,” a drama about a teen sent to gay conversion camp. Huppert was last seen in an episode of Amazon anthology series “The Romanoffs.” She received an Oscar nod for “Elle” in 2017.
“Greta” made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and hits theaters March 1. Maika Monroe (“It Follows”) co-stars.
