Issa is on a “forward path” in the fourth season of “Insecure,” for which a trailer just dropped. As Issa (Issa Rae) explains to her BFF Molly (Yvonne Orji), “I’m focused. It’s like, no job, no man. All this sounds bad,” she admits, “but it’s actually really good. It’s good vibes only!”
Despite fears and insecurity about whether or not she’ll be able to pull it off, Issa is working hard to plan an elaborate block party. She even invents an imaginary assistant to help give her more cred — we see her chastising “Sapphire” for her poor performance while on a business call.
Season 4 “follows the main characters in the aftermath of the decisions they made in the last season,” HBO hints in a synopsis. “Issa pursues a passion project she actually cares about, Molly navigates a real relationship for the first time, Lawrence figures out what leveling-up means for him, and we see the effect of Tiffany’s new baby on the dynamic of the friend group. Along the way, we’ll see these characters evaluating relationships, both new and old, in an effort to figure out who and what comes with them in this next phase of their lives.”
“Little” and “The Hate U Give” are among Rae’s other credits. She can currently be seen on the big screen in Stella Meghie’s “The Photograph,” a romance charting intertwining love stories. Rae will re-team with Meghie on “American Princess,” a comedy about an American woman who finds herself drawn into a world of wealth and high society when she moves to London.
“Insecure” returns to HBO April 12. Rae co-created the series, and has received an Emmy nod for her acting. Check out the trailer to see Issa’s latest mirror rap.
