Trailer Watch: Issa Rae Makes a Change in New “Insecure” Full Trailer

“Insecure”: HBO

“Go shorty. It’s your birthday. But no one cares cause I’m not having a party. Cause I’m feeling sorry for myself,” Issa Rae sings into her bathroom mirror, fully capturing the hilarious self-deprecation and celebration that is her new HBO series “Insecure.”

The “Awkward Black Girl” YouTube breakout co-created and stars in the new comedy, which is described as “a hilarious look at the relationship between two female friends, and the trials and tribulations they experience alongside one another.”

“We wanted to depict an authentic black female friendship,” explained Rae at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour. She added, “We’re just trying to convey that people of color are relatable.”

The eight-episode, half-hour series stars Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, and Lisa Joyce.

This new trailer is the longest glimpse of “Insecure” we’ve gotten so far, and Rae’s character’s insecurity is even more charming here. From her Converse sneakers to her new wardrobe, we’ve never rooted more for someone trying too hard.

“Insecure” hits HBO on October 9. Check out the new trailer below.
