Trailer Watch: It’s Time for UBA to Reckon with Its Racism in “The Morning Show” Season 2

"The Morning Show"

At the end of “The Morning Show’s” first season, talk show hosts Alex (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) opened up about their network’s toxic, misogynist culture while on the air. Season 2 of the Apple TV+ drama, which has dropped a new trailer, will focus on the fallout from their decision — as well as UBA’s other systemic issues.

“There is a pattern of behavior around here that disadvantages the people of color,” Daniel (Desean Terry) points out. Mia (Karen Pittman) is forced to do the higher-ups bidding and deny Daniel a promotion. “The network doesn’t think you have the ‘it’ factor,” she tells him. “We’re looking to showcase some other talent.”

Yanko (Nestor Carbonell) is getting fed up with UBA’s inherent racial bias — and the half-assed measures the company has taken up to address it. “You know what the problem with racism is?” he asks Mia. “You don’t fix it by pretending to want to fix it.”

Meanwhile, Bradley feels as if she’s being pushed to the side after Alex exits, and returns to, “The Morning Show.” “I feel like they’re bringing in my big sister to clean up my mess,” she laments. “I’m the whistleblower,” she declares later in the spot. “I’m gonna get everything I want.”

“The Morning Show” also counts Julianna Margulies, Marcia Gay Harden, Greta Lee, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw among its ensemble cast. Its debut season received eight Emmy nominations, including Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Aniston and Directing for a Drama Series for Mimi Leder. Aniston took home a SAG Award for her performance.

Season 2 of “The Morning Show” premieres September 17.
