Trailer Watch: Janelle Monáe Can’t Remember Who She Is or What She Did in “Homecoming” Season 2

"Homecoming"

Janelle Monáe can’t remember her name, address, or birthday in an eerie new trailer for “Homecoming.” The second season of the Amazon anthology series sees the “Harriet” actress and “Dirty Computer” singer playing a character who wakes up in a rowboat adrift in a lake with no recollection of how she got there or who she is. “Her ensuing search for identity will lead her into the heart of the Geist Group, the unconventional wellness company behind the Homecoming Initiative,” a synopsis for the season hints.

“I knew something was wrong with me, but I couldn’t explain it to anyone,” Monáe’s character says in the spot. “It’s like the people around me were keeping a secret — like we were in a movie, and everyone knew we were in a movie except for me.”

Sensing that she may have done something wrong but with no idea of what it could be, she seems determined to find answers despite being cautioned against continuing her hunt for the truth.

“Moonlight” and “Hidden Figures” are among Monáe’s previous credits. She toplines “Antebellum,” an upcoming thriller about an author transported to a different reality.

“Homecoming” returns May 22. Julia Roberts starred in the first season of the series.
