Trailer Watch: Jennifer Kent’s Sundance Favorite ‘The Babadook’

When it debuted at Sundance this year, writer-director Jennifer Kent’s debut, The Babadook, became one of the festival’s breakout hits, with critics praising the film as a “flat-out masterpiece” and “the best Australian film in years.” (As of press time, The Babadook enjoys a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.)

Now a full-length trailer has arrived. Essie Davis plays a young widow with a six-year-old son, Samuel (Noah Wieseman). They live in a house haunted by the loss of her husband — and something else. An Edward Gorey-like book appears in Samuel’s room one day, and the monsters within begin to terrorize mother and son.

The Babadook opens November 28.
