Trailer Watch: Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong’o Lead an All-Star Cast in “The 355”

"The 355"

Jessica Chastain assembles a dream team with the aim of retrieving a top-secret weapon in “The 355.” A trailer just dropped for the star-studded espionage thriller.

“The old wars — the Cold War, the War on Terror — we knew who we were fighting. But now the enemy’s invisible. They can destabilize entire countries from the simple reach of their keyboard,” Mace (Chastain) says in the spot. When a weapon falls into mercenary hands, the CIA agent puts together a team of women she considers the best in the world at what they do: a former MI6 ally and computer specialist (Lupita Nyong’o), a rival German agent (Diane Kruger), and a Columbian psychologist (Penélope Cruz). Together, they’ll embark on a lethal mission to take on the invisible enemy and retrieve the weapon. All the while, a mysterious woman (Bingbing Fan) is following their every move.

“As the action rockets around the globe from the cafes of Paris to the markets of Morocco to the wealth and glamour of Shanghai, the quartet of women will forge a tenuous loyalty that could protect the world — or get them killed,” the film’s synopsis teases.

A two-time Oscar nominee, Chastain received nods for “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Help.” “It Chapter Two” is among her more recent credits.

Nyong’o won an Oscar for her breakout role in “12 Years a Slave.” Her recent credits include “Us” and “Little Monsters.”

Cruz took home an Oscar for “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and landed noms for “Nine” and “Volver.” She was recently seen in “Pain and Glory.”

“In the Fade,” “The Bridge,” and “Inglourious Basterds” are among Kruger’s credits.

Fan’s credits include “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Iron Man 3.”

“The 355” hits theaters January 15. Theresa Rebeck (“Smash”) penned the script. Chastain is among the pic’s producers.
