The best Actress Oscar Race continues to heat up. If the new trailer for “Miss Sloane” is any indication, Jessica Chastain will be joining the running as well.
“Miss Sloane,” according to the film’s official synopsis, “is the story of a brilliant but ruthless lobbyist (Chastain) who is notorious for her unparalleled talent and her desire to win at all costs, even when it puts her own career at risk. The thriller pulls back the curtain on how Capitol Hill games are played and won as Sloane faces off against the most influential powers in D.C.” To get a bit more specific, Chastain’s character jeopardizes her career to pursue stricter and safer gun legislation.
The subject matter is quite timely, and since Chastain is vocal and progressive when it comes to issues about diversity in Hollywood, we wouldn’t be surprised if Chastain used the platform of “Miss Sloane” to join Amy Schumer, Beyonce, and Julianne Moore in speaking out in favor of tighter gun policy.
The film co-stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Beyond the Lights,” “Belle”) and Alison Pill (“The Newsroom”) and was directed by John Madden (“Shakespeare in Love”).
There’s something about a steel-jawed woman going up against a room full of men that’s just incredibly inspiring, even if it can be simultaneously maddening. Chastain’s determination in this trailer is pretty freaking great; she’s here to fight and win.
“Miss Sloane” hits theaters on December 9.
