Trailer Watch: Jessie McCormack’s Baby-Swap Dramedy ‘Expecting’

Thirtysomething friendship is the focus of first-time writer-director Jessie McCormack’s upcoming dramedy Expecting, which finds two gal pals (Michelle Monaghan and Radha Mitchell) in a fairly novel conundrum.

“I don’t really want a baby. But to get rid of it at my age seems a little gauche,” declares Andie (Monaghan) in a statement that doesn’t make much sense but definitely gets the movie’s ball rolling. It just so happens that Andie’s married friend Lizzie (Mitchell) is looking into adoptions herself. “I want you to have it, the beast growing inside me,” says Andie, solving both of their problems with one simple solution.

But of course, it’s never that easy. As the therapist played by Mimi Kennedy sarcastically says, “I don’t understand why this arrangment is even an issue. It always works out so well when friends give each other their babies.” In Andie and Lizzie’s case, husbands become jealous, friendships falter under close scrutiny, and, inevitably, new families will be formed.

Expecting will open on December 6.
