Trailer Watch: “Jimmy Carter: Rock & Roll President” Brings Americans Together Through Music

"Jimmy Carter: Rock & Roll President"

“I think music is the best proof that people have one thing in common no matter where they live, no matter what language they speak,” says Jimmy Carter in a new trailer for “Jimmy Carter: Rock & Roll President.” As the most divisive president in U.S. history seeks re-election, Mary Wharton’s documentary goes back in time to explore how President Carter harnessed the power of rock & roll to unite Americans. “One of the things that has held America together has been the music that we share and love,” Carter says in the spot.

The trailer also touches on how Carter handled the Iran hostage crisis, the subject of Barbara Kopple’s latest doc, “Desert One.”

“Jimmy Carter: Rock & Roll President” ultimately “shows how Carter’s lifelong passion for music gave him an unexpected edge as a presidential candidate as he tapped into a force that transcended racial and generational divides, and often party lines,” according to its official synopsis.

Wharton’s directing credits include “Joan Baez: How Sweet the Sound” and episodes of “Biography.”

“Jimmy Carter: Rock & Roll President” hits theaters and virtual cinemas September 9.
