Trailer Watch: Katey Sagal Is a Creepy Country Music Star in Brea Grant’s “Torn Hearts”

"Torn Hearts"

Rising artists get more than they bargained for when they meet their idol in “Torn Hearts.” A cautionary tale about stardom, Brea Grant’s latest follows two friends (Abby Quinn and Alexxis Lemire) who are tired of playing midsized crowds in Nashville. The singers are convinced that they are destined for greatness, and believe that a push from a legendary musician could be just what they need. A trailer for the pic sees the duo heading to Harper Dutch’s (Katey Sagal) mansion with the aim of having her record a song with them.

Harper agrees to their request, but her increasingly erratic behavior is concerning, to say the least. She immediately pits the duo against one another by asking which one of them is “better,” and when she’s not trying to drive a wedge between the pair, she’s smashing guitars and pressuring them to drink. Eventually, they begin to suspect that she killed her own musical partner — her sister.

“This is my house. I will tear it to shreds to get to you two,” Harper warns.

An alumna of “Married with Children,” Sagal’s more recent credits include “The Conners,” “Rebel,” and “Shameless.”

Grant’s most recent feature, 2020’s “12 Hour Shift,” told the story of a nurse involved in organ trafficking.

Written by Rachel Koller Croft, “Torn Hearts” launches on digital May 20.
