After dropping teasers like candy for weeks, Lionsgate has finally released a two-and-a-half minute trailer for the final chapter of Katniss Everdeen’s epic journey, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2.”
The new spot for the latest — and last — installment of the franchise begins with tyrannical President Snow telling Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) with his characteristic polite menace, “I’ve been watching you, and you watching me. My dear Miss Everdeen, make no mistake: The game is coming to an end.” The time has come for full-fledged war, spearheaded by Katniss, the ever-reluctant but capable leader. According to our heroine — and the troops she’s rallying would agree — “Snow has to pay for what he’s done.”
The trailer includes footage of the Mockingjay and Co. preparing to turn their weapons against the Capitol and Snow, whose violent and suffocating rule has not only made sport and entertainment of citizens’ gruesome deaths, but ensured gross inequality across the Districts.
The footage focuses almost exclusively on the escalating feud between Katniss and Snow. There are no hints, on the other hand, about how the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta and Gale will be resolved (but that’s the storyline we’re least interested in, anyway).
Watch Katniss lead a rebellion and change the world on November 20. The Girl on Fire is sure to light up the box office yet again with a huge opening.
