Trailer Watch: Kids Send Their Parents on a Dangerous Adventure in “The Willoughbys”

"The Willoughbys"

“All the Willoughby children ever wanted was to have a normal family, but their loving parents have no love left over for them,” a narrator explains in a new trailer for “The Willoughbys.” An adaptation of Lois Lowry’s novel of the same name, the animated Netflix pic sees the kids vowing to improve their family — by getting rid of their cruel, selfish parents.

The spot shows how the children escape from the “two insidious adults” by crafting a dangerous adventure to entice them to leave home. Finally free of their mom and dad, the kids bask in their newfound independence, but it’s not long before they meet their new nanny.

“The Willoughbys” hits Netflix April 22. Its voice cast includes Maya Rudolph (“The Good Place”), Jane Krakowski (“Dickinson”), and singer Alessia Cara.
