Trailer Watch: Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer Go on a Cruise in “Like Father”

"Like Father": Netflix

Kristen Bell takes to the sea with unexpected company in a new trailer for Lauren Miller Rogen’s “Like Father.” She and her fiancé planned to go on a cruise to celebrate their honeymoon, but things didn’t go according to plan. “I was left at the altar a few days ago, and my dad who I haven’t seen since I was five showed up at my wedding unannounced. The two of us got incredibly drunk that night and I must have blacked because somehow I dragged him onto this cruise that was supposed to be my honeymoon,” her character explains in the spot.

The overworked exec is in desperate need of a vacation, but this isn’t the one she envisioned. She and her dad (Kelsey Grammer) are near strangers with a complicated history, but it seems like the two bond quickly over cruise activities and intimate conversations. Still, Bell’s character can’t help but ask, “Why are you here now after all this time?”

“Like Father” marks Miller Rogen’s feature debut. She also penned the script. She wrote and starred in the 2012 comedy “For a God Time, Call…” Her other acting credits include “Master of None,” “Another Period,” and “Ben and Kate.”

Bell stars in “The Good Place.” The afterlife comedy’s second season concluded in February, and NBC has confirmed a third run.

“Like Father” hits Netflix August 3. Seth Rogen co-stars.
