The new trailer for Olivier Assayas’ “Personal Shopper,” starring Kristen Stewart, makes the film look downright scary.
“Personal Shopper” marks Stewart’s second time teaming up with Assayas after the wonderful “Clouds of Sils Maria.” In this film, she’s playing a spiritual medium living in Paris in the wake of tragedy.
As the NYFF description details, Stewart plays Maureen, “a fashion assistant whose twin brother has died, leaving her bereft and longing for messages from the other side, Stewart is fragile and enigmatic — and nearly always on-screen. From an opening sequence in a haunted house with an intricately constructed soundtrack to a high-tension, cat-and-mouse game on a trip from Paris to London and back set entirely to text messaging, ‘Personal Shopper’ brings the psychological and supernatural thriller into the digital age.”
Stewart became the first American woman to win a Cesar Award, the French equivalent of an Oscar, for her performance in “Clouds of Sils Maria.”
“Personal Shopper” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year along with another Stewart film, Kelly Reichardt’s “Certain Women.” Both will also screen at the New York Film Festival, which begins today and runs through October 16.
While the initial premise of “Personal Shopper” sounds like it’s a melancholy drama, this new trailer amps up the outright horror aspect of it, with jump scares, spooky tunes, and mysterious messages from the other side.
“Personal Shopper” hits theaters on March 10, 2017.
