Trailer Watch: Kristen Wiig & Annie Mumolo Reunite for a Holiday in “Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar”

A new trailer for “Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar” has arrived and sees “Bridesmaids” collaborators Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo taking a holidaaaay to celebraaaate. Set to Madonna’s “Holiday,” the spot teases the pair’s very normcore vacation and suggests it may end up being quite the adventure.

Barb (Mumolo) and Star-short-for-“Starbra” (Wiig) decide to take a break from hosting their Talking Club and making hot dog soup and leave their Midwestern hometown for the first time ever. They head to Vista Del Mar, where they get their caricatures drawn — “I hope she gives me bigger teeth,” Barb says. “Even if it’s just two eyes on a bunch of teeth.” — and buy a shell-shaped iPhone case to glue on their landline back home.

The trailer is sparse on details about the more dangerous element of Barb and Star’s vacation, but the film’s synopsis mentions that it will collide with “a villain’s evil plot.”

Wiig and Mumolo wrote “Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar.” They previously penned “Bridesmaids,” which featured Wiig in the lead role and Mumolo in a scene-stealing cameo.

Wiig was last seen as the villain Cheetah in Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984.” Her other recent credits include “Bless the Harts” and “Big Mouth.” “The Unicorn,” “Looks That Kill,” and “Mapleworth Murders” are among Mumolo more recent projects. Next, she’ll appear in “Queenpins,” an upcoming comedy about housewives running a multi-million coupon scam from Gita Pullapilly and Aron Gaudet.

“Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar” launches on VOD February 12.
