Trailer Watch: Lily James Goes on Many Adventures in “The Pursuit of Love”

"The Pursuit of Love"

“Linda believes in love,” we’re told in the new trailer for BBC One miniseries “The Pursuit of Love.” “She’s passionately romantic.” Linda Radlett (Lily James) does “aspire to true love,” but she’s more than happy to have plenty of fun, sex, and adventures on her way to finding it.

Written and directed by Emily Mortimer, “The Pursuit of Love” is based on Nancy Mitford’s novel. It sees Linda and her best friend and cousin, Fanny Logan (Emily Beecham), exploring what they want from romance, sex, and marriage in the years between WWI and WWII. Judging from the spot, the duo seem to be confident, open-minded, and sex positive — which rubs some other characters the wrong way.

Linda is described as “wicked” in the spot, and even refers to herself as a black sheep. One character absolutely loses his shit over the notion of unmarried women having sex, yelling, “An adulterous woman is the single most disgusting thing there is!”

“The Pursuit of Love” marks Mortimer’s directorial debut. She also stars as Fanny’s mother.

Mortimer previously co-created, wrote for, and starred in HBO and Sky comedy “Doll & Em.” Her more recent on-screen credits include “Relic” and “Don’t Look Deeper.”

“The Dig” and “Rebecca” are among James’ recent projects, and Beecham’s best-known credits include “Little Joe.”

“The Pursuit of Love” premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the U.K. on May 9. It will stream on Amazon Prime in North America later this year.
