Trailer Watch: “Lucky Grandma” Heads to the Casino and Attracts the Attention of Gangsters

“Why do these messy things keep happening?” asks Tsai Chin (“The Joy Luck Club”) in a new trailer for “Lucky Grandma,” a caper set in Chinatown, New York. After a a fortune teller advises the newly widowed 80-year-old Grandma (Chin) that luck is on her side, she heads to the casino and doesn’t hold back. She loses her life savings — only to find a bag of cash. The discovery doesn’t prove to be quite as lucky as it seems.

Local gangsters know Grandma has the money, and show up at her doorstop demanding she give it up. But Grandma isn’t ready to part with fortune, and instead hires a bodyguard to help protect her.

Written by Sasie Sealy and Angela Cheng and directed by the former, “Lucky Grandma” hits virtual theaters May 22. Check out the trailer to see Grandma using an unlikely weapon to ward off attackers.
