The crew of the USS Discovery will be back soon. A trailer for “Star Trek: Discovery’s” second season has dropped and it sees protagonist Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) encountering both new and familiar faces.

Among the new are a young Spock (Ethan Peck, “Madam Secretary”), who brings warnings of an apocalypse at the hands of Season 2’s Big Bad, the Red Angel. The villain’s mission: “end all sentient life in the galaxy.” Michael is justifiably freaked out. “We’re really on the other side of the looking glass now, aren’t we?” she muses.

However, it’s not all bad news in the spot. Michael gets to reunite with her former mentor, Michelle Yeoh’s Captain/Emperor Philippa Georgiou. “Quite the welcome,” Georgiou quips when she makes her grand, surprise entrance. Expecting an attack, Michael and the rest had raised their weapons.

“Star Trek: Discovery” returns January 17 on CBS All Access. Tig Notaro is joining the cast for Season 2.
