Michelle Pfeiffer loses her knight in shining armor in a new trailer for Sundance drama “Where Is Kyra?” “Thank God for my mom, she saved my ass,” Kyra (Pfeiffer) says in a new trailer for the film. But when her elderly mother dies, there’s no one there to swoop in and save the day.
Unemployed Kyra is left to fend for herself financially and emotionally. With little time to grieve her loss, she’s faced with a potential eviction from the New York apartment she shared with her mom if she’s unable to make rent. “Kyra can’t accept that her once-tidy life has fallen apart, and she resorts to increasingly desperate measures to hold onto what little she has left,” “Where Is Kyra’s” official synopsis hints. By her own account, she’s “in over [her] head,” and seemingly resorts to illegal — and super creative — means of cashing her late mom’s disability checks.
Pfeiffer, a three-time Oscar nominee, earned excellent reviews for the film out of Sundance. Her recent credits include “Murder on the Orient Express,” “Mother!” and “Wizard of Lies.”
Directed by Andrew Dosunmu and written by Darci Picoult, who previously teamed up for “Mother of George,” “Where is Kyra?” hits theaters April 6.
