A trailer has dropped for “The Wolf Hour,” a psychological thriller that sees Naomi Watts playing a former counterculture hero who is now a shut-in. Set in July 1977 New York, the pic takes place during the so-called Summer of Sam.
Tensions are growing as the Son of Sam’s body count adds up, and even June (Watts) isn’t immune to the escalating violence. A citywide blackout leads to fires, looting, and arrests, and she watches crisis after crisis unfold from her window and peephole.
Despite being told that her “condition” is “all in her head,” June finds herself unable to leave her apartment. But she’s not always alone. “Visitors, some invited, some unsolicited, arrive one by one, and June must determine whom she can trust and whether she can find a path back to her former self,” the film’s synopsis hints.
“It’s like someone is genuinely trying to scare me,” June tells the police.
Watts scored Oscar nods for her roles in “The Impossible” and “21 Grams.” Her recent credits include “Luce,” “Twin Peaks: The Return,” and “The Loudest Voice.” She’s signed on to star in an untitled “Game of Thrones” prequel for HBO.
“The Wolf Hour” hits theaters December 6.
