If there’s one thing Game of Thrones has taught us, it’s that being a princess really, really sucks.
Grace of Monaco makes the same point with a drama set in an era closer to our own time. The Grace Kelly biopic, starring Nicole Kidman as the Hitchcock muse, frames the actress’s post-Hollywood life in Monaco as one of frustrated potential and creativity. As tensions between Monaco and France force the princess into dutiful silence, Grace looks to leaving the palace to restart her film career — a scenario dismissed by both her husband, Prince Rainier (Tim Roth) and her royal handlers.
Grace of Monaco will open this year’s Cannes Film Festival and debut in the UK on June 6.
