Yvonne Strahovski is far from Gilead in a new trailer for “Angel of Mine,” but “The Handmaid’s Tale” star finds herself in yet another nightmarish situation in the Kim Farrant-directed thriller. Her neighbor Lizzie (Noomi Rapace, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) has become fixated on her daughter. “I had a little girl once,” Lizzie tells the young girl. “A little baby. She was in an accident.” A tragic hospital fire left Lizzie’s daughter dead. But the more time Lizzie spends around Claire’s (Strahovski) girl — oftentimes observing her secretly from afar –the less convinced of this fact she becomes.
Lizzie spent nearly a year committed and the trailer hints that she may be off her meds. Her ex is winning the custody battle for their son. As Lizzie’s life falls apart, she begins losing her grip.
“You have no idea what it’s like to lose a child,” she tells Claire, as if her trauma entitles her to take Claire’s daughter. She’s stalking Claire’s family, seemingly waiting for the opportunity to snatch her child.
Farrant made her narrative feature debut with 2015 Nicole Kidman-starrer “Strangerland.”
“Angel of Mine” arrives in select theaters and on VOD August 30.
