Trailer Watch: Noomi Rapace Tries to Prevent Biological Warfare in “Unlocked”

“Unlocked”

“We need you for an emergency assignment in London. We’ve got a prisoner waiting,” a CIA analyst tells expert interrogator Alice Racine (Noomi Rapace) over the phone. “I’m already on it,” a confused Alice replies. “What the hell are you talking about? We haven’t informed London station,” the analyst says. Alice’s face falls in horror — she’s been tricked into giving information to a terrorist cell.

There is the threat of a biological attack in the action flick “Unlocked,” but an unwitting Alice was brought in to interrogate a patsy and accidentally helped terrorists penetrate the CIA and the UK’s MI-5. Suffice to say, this doesn’t make her very popular with her superior (John Malkovich), her mentor (Michael Douglas), or MI-5 boss Emily Knowles (Toni Collette).

“I’m thinking I’m the only friend you got,” MI-5 asset Jack Alcott (Orlando Bloom) tells Alice. And in true buddy cop movie fashion, they don’t really like each other all that much. But Alice will have to learn to work with Jack if she’s ever going to stop the attack, avoid biological warfare, and earn back the CIA’s trust.

Best known for playing Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” films, Rapace’s credits also include “Prometheus,” “Rupture,” and “Passion.” You can catch her next in “What Happened to Monday?” a sci-fi dystopian thriller in which she plays septuplets. The film will premiere on Netflix sometime in August.

If you’re interested in “Unlocked,” you might want to check out the Charlize Theron vehicle “Atomic Blonde,” out July 28. Also a female-led action film, it sees protagonist Lorraine Broughton working against the clock to find out who is targeting and killing her colleagues in the MI-6.

Directed by Michael Apted (“Enough,” the “7 Up” documentary series), “Unlocked” hits theaters September 1.
