Trailer Watch: Old Friends Reunite in Meagan Good and Tamara LaSeon Bass’ “If Not Now, When?”

"If Not Now, When?"

As highschoolers, BFFs Tyra (Meagan Good, “Think Like a Man”), Patrice (Tamara Bass, “All That Matters”), Deidre (Meagan Holder, “UnREAL”), and Suzanne (Mekia Cox, “The Rookie”) used to sit around and plot out their lives. Many years and unexpected twists and turns later, their lives aren’t quite what they imagined they would be, for better and for worse. A new trailer for “If Not Now, When?” suggests that the foursome have also grown apart, and it takes a crisis to bring them back together.

When Tyra overdoses, her friends rally to support her. “People who OD are not fine,” she’s told. Still, she insists that she’s “not a junkie.”

Good and Bass are making their feature directorial debuts with “If Not Now, When?”

“Coming together, we discussed how we witnessed a void in the slice of life films that happen to showcase people of color. Particularly women of color,” Good and Bass write in their director’s statement. “We knew that we were represented recently in the comedy genre and had played second fiddle to men for years. But, having our stories be front and center in a heartfelt drama, hadn’t been seen since ‘Waiting to Exhale.’ And we were due. Women are consumers too! Hence the voyage of ‘If Not Now, When?’ was born.”

“If Not Now, When?” hits theaters, on demand, and digital January 8. Bass penned the script.
