We can only imagine what Olivia Wilde’s character in “A Vigilante” would do to get her hands on Perry from “Big Little Lies.” A trailer has dropped for Sarah Daggar-Nickson’s feature debut, and it sees Wilde playing a once-abused woman who has devoted her life to helping other domestic abuse victims. Sadie’s not offering a shoulder to cry on or a referral to a therapist: she’s getting rid of abusers.
“It can be so very hard to accept that someone who’s supposed to love you can brutalize and control you,” a woman in a support group tells Sadie and others. “You start to feel like there’s no escape.”
But Sadie is determined to brutalize and control the abusers and free those they are terrorizing. If the trailer is any indication, she does so by donning disguises and scaring the living shit out of the abusers — by any means necessary. She’s also on a mission to track down — and kill — her own abusive ex.
Daggar-Nickson also penned “A Vigilante.” The revenge drama premiered at SXSW 2018 to rave reviews.
“Vinyl,” “Meadowland,” and “TRON: Legacy” are among Wilde’s previous credits. She’ll make her own feature directorial debut with “Booksmart,” a comedy about overachieving BFFs who realize they haven’t had enough fun during high school — and try to cram everything they missed out on into one night. The comedy is set to premiere at SXSW in March and is scheduled for release May 24.
“A Vigilante” will be available on DIRECTV February 28 and hits theaters and on demand March 29.
