“Life is a series of befores and afters,” we’re told in a new trailer for “Better Things'” fifth and final season. Pamela Adlon’s critically acclaimed FX comedy about a single mom and her three daughters is coming to a close, but before we say goodbye to the Fox family, we’ll follow them for one last chapter, and it looks like Sam (Adlon), Max (Mikey Madison), Frankie (Hannah Alligood), and Duke (Olivia Edward) are all embarking on journeys of self-discovery.
Sam in particular is looking inwards and onwards. After working as a director she finds herself accepting an unfulfilling acting gig and suffering on-set. “Please get me off this movie,” she begs. “I need to move forwards.” Frankie helps provide her mom with some words of wisdom. “The first problem for all of us is not to learn, but to unlearn,” she says.
“Better Things” returns February 28. Adlon has directed every episode of the Peabody winner since its second season. She’s received two Emmy nods for her acting in the series.
