“All my life people have looked at me,” Fauna Hodel (India Eisley, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”) writes in “I Am the Night.” “I just want to be normal. Like everybody else.” Unfortunately, as the trailer for Patty Jenkins’ newest project makes clear, that’s easier said than done.
An upcoming limited series co-directed and exec produced by Jenkins, “I Am the Night” sees Fauna making her way to Los Angeles after she discovers she was adopted. Turns out her biological family has ties to the notorious “Black Dahlia” murder and is fond of throwing “Eyes Wide Shut”-esque shindigs.
Along the way, Fauna crosses paths with disgraced journalist Jay Singletary (Chris Pine, reuniting with his “Wonder Woman” director). Fauna believes she’s “nobody,” but Jay suspects she’s “the key” to the Black Dahlia mystery and the case that ruined his life.
“I Am the Night” begins its six-episode run January 28 on TNT. Jenkins directed three episodes, and “Yelling to the Sky’s” Victoria Mahoney helmed two.
Best known for directing critical and commercial darling “Wonder Woman,” Jenkins received an Emmy nod for helming the pilot of “The Killing.” The “Monster” writer-director is currently in production on “Wonder Woman 1984,” set to open June 5, 2020. Her deal for the Gal Gadot-starrer makes her the highest-paid female filmmaker ever.
