“Most people aren’t aware of the exact moment when they lose their innocence. It usually happens slowly, but, for me, it was all at once,” says Charlie (Chosen Jacobs), the narrator of “When The Streetlights Go On.” As a new trailer for the project reveals, Charlie’s childhood ended when he discovered two bodies in the woods during the summer of 1995, when he was just 15 years old.
“Our town was put under a dark spell in the summer of 1995,” adult Charlie says. Neighbors and friends grow suspicious of one another, people are scapegoated, and — in one way or another — everyone in town becomes involved in the mystery.
At the center of the investigation is Detective Grasso (Queen Latifah). She promises that law enforcement “is keeping a close eye on every lead,” but that does little to assuage her community’s anxiety and fear.
“When the Streetlights Go On” is one of Quibi’s “Movies in Chapters” and will premiere alongside the new short-form streaming platform’s launch on April 6. Rebecca Thomas helmed the project. “Stranger Things,” “Limetown,” and “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” are among her other credits.
Queen Latifah received an Oscar nomination for her supporting turn in “Chicago.” She was last seen in ABC’s “The Little Mermaid Live!,” for which she portrayed villainess Ursula. “Star,” “Girls Trip,” and “Flint” are among her recent credits.
