A fun new TV spot for Mira Nair’s “Queen of Katwe” has hit the web, and it shows that while chess is often thought of as a high-brow pursuit, it can also be fun, competitive, and exciting.
“Queen of Katwe” tells “the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.”
“Queen of Katwe” stars Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo, and newcomer Madina Nalwanga. It hits U.S. theaters September 23. It was recently announced that the film will make its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, taking place in Toronto September 8–18. The BFI London Film Festival will mark “Queen of Katwe’s” European Premiere.
