Think of “Change in the Air” as “The Marvelous Ms. Miller.” A trailer for Dianne Dreyer’s new drama sees Rachel Brosnahan’s character, Wren Miller, enchanting her new neighbors and inspiring awe wherever she goes.
As one neighbor, Arnie (Peter Gerety), observes, “There’s something quite special about her.” Wren seems to just know things. She’s aware her neighbor Jo Ann (Mary Beth Hurt) lost her granddaughter without anyone telling her. She’s receives a ton of mail every day. Wren also seems to have a special kinship with birds, which tend to flock around her. Plus, as the local cop (Aidan Quinn) discovers, Wren’s files read “DECEASED.”
Whoever, or whatever, Wren is, she certainly brings joy to her community — for as long as its members need her. “She’s so quiet, she just appears, and before you know it, she’s gone,” Arnie reveals.
“Change in the Air” marks Dreyer’s directorial debut. A show business vet, she served as script supervisor for titles including “Doubt,” “You’ve Got Mail,” and “The English Patient” and produced pics such as “The Beaver” and “Julie & Julia.” The film is also the first script from Audra Gorman, who previously worked as a location manager for projects including “Mr. Robot” and “Date Night.”
Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis and Grammy winner Macy Gray co-star.
Brosnahan just took home the best comedy actress Emmy for her work as the titular character in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” The Amazon series about a rising standup comic will return for a second season later this year. “Manhattan” and “House of Cards” are among Brosnahan’s other credits.
“Change in the Air” will be released in select theaters and on VOD October 19.
