Trailer Watch: Reese Witherspoon Leads Aline Brosh McKenna Rom-Com “Your Place or Mine”

"Your Place or Mine": Netflix

Contrary to rumors suggesting otherwise, a sequel to Nancy Meyers’ “The Holiday” is not in the works. But we do have another house-swapping rom-com from a woman director to look forward to. A trailer just launched for Reese Witherspoon-starrer “Your Place or Mine.” Penned and helmed by “The Devil Wears Prada” scribe Aline Brosh McKenna, the pic tells the story of two long-distance BFFs, and total opposites, who decide to swap houses and lives for a week. Peter (Ashton Kutcher) can sense that Debbie (Witherspoon), a single mom, is in dire need of a break. “You need help. Let me help,” he insists in the spot. The plan is for him to come to LA for a week and take care of Debbie’s son while she stays at Peter’s home in NYC for some much-needed rest and relaxation.

Debbie and Peter have been friends for 20 years, but they didn’t start off as pals. The spot reveals that they hooked up way back when, but decided they were better off keeping things platonic. “My mom always says you’re terrible with women,” Debbie’s son (Wesley Kimmel) tells Peter.

Asked by a new friend (Zoe Chao) what her love life is like, Debbie responds, “sort of like an old ghost town.” But things don’t stay that way. She meets a guy (Jesse Williams) and starts to fall for him. Things get complicated when Debbie begins to suspect that Peter may be interested in more than friendship with her.

Witherspoon won an Oscar for “Walk the Line” and received a nod for “Wild.” She netted an Emmy for her work as an exec producer on “Big Little Lies.” The budding mogul’s upcoming slate includes a third installment of the “Legally Blonde” franchise.

“Your Place or Mine” marks Brosh McKenna’s feature directorial debut. She helmed four episodes of The CW’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” a musical comedy series she co-created with star Rachel Bloom.

“Your Place or Mine” hits Netflix February 10. Bloom and “One Mississippi” alumna Tig Notaro co-star.
