“Judy” doesn’t hit theaters until September 27, but Renée Zellweger just took a big leap in the Oscar race thanks to a newly released trailer for the Judy Garland biopic.
“Everybody has their troubles, and I’ve had mine,” Judy (Zellweger) says in the spot. “I just want what everybody wants — I just seem to have a harder time getting it.” Set in 1968, the drama depicts a particularly hard time in the iconic “Wizard of Oz” star’s life. She’s low on cash, her voice has weakened, and she’s battling with addiction and management. But things seem like they might be looking up. Judy is about to perform a five-week sold-out run in London and falls head over heels for a new man in her life.
Of course, Judy still has troubles. Told she needs to take better care of herself, Judy is missing her kids back home and seems terrified by the prospect of taking the stage.
Zellweger won an Oscar for her supporting role in “Cold Mountain” and received nods for “Chicago” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” “What/If,” “Here and Now,” and “Bridget Jones’s Baby” are among her recent credits.
