Trailer Watch: Ruth Wilson Plays Her Grandmother in Masterpiece’s “Mrs. Wilson”

"Mrs. Wilson"

“You do know I’m entirely unsuitable for a young lady like you?” Alison’s (Ruth Wilson) future husband, intelligence agent and spy novelist Major Alec Wilson (Iain Glen, “Game of Thrones”), tells her on their first date. As the trailer for upcoming Masterpiece miniseries “Mrs. Wilson” reveals, this warning is more than just flirty bullshit.

Alison and Alec eventually get married, have a family, and spend a happy life together until his death. That’s when another woman shows up on Alison’s doorstep — one who claims she’s Alec’s wife.

“Alec wouldn’t lie to me, not like that, not for 20 years,” Alison assures herself. But an old work colleague of Alec (Anupam Kher, “The Big Sick”) suggests differently. “Alec was a first-class agent,” he says. “There’s a price you have to pay.”

“Mrs. Wilson” follows Alison as she seeks the truth about her husband and her own life. Based on the real Alison Wilson’s memoir, the series sees Ruth Wilson portraying her grandmother.

Ruth Wilson will play both Cordelia and the Fool in the 2019 Broadway production of “King Lear,” starring Glenda Jackson. Wilson’s Golden Globe-winning turn in “The Affair” ended during the Showtime drama’s recent fourth season. She was written off the series, where she reportedly was paid less than co-star Dominic West. Wilson’s recent screen credits include “Dark River” and “The Little Stranger.”

Written by Anna Symon (“Indian Summers”) “Mrs. Wilson” will air on PBS’ Masterpiece in 2019.
