Trailer Watch: Sandra Bullock Is Up Against Pure Evil in “Bird Box”

"Bird Box"

Sandra Bullock proved she was capable of pulling off the heist of the century in this summer’s “Ocean’s Eight,” but the Oscar winner may have found her match in “Bird Box.” Susanne Bier’s post-apocalyptic thriller sees her facing off against something that’s already decimated most of the population. The mysterious force takes the form of her — and everyone else’s — worst fears. It’s not a virus or a chemical attack, but “evil at work,” according to a new trailer for the pic. Malorie (Bullock) will have to conquer evil, or at least outrun it, to save her kids.

“We are going on the trip. Never take off your blindfold. You will make it,” promises Malorie. She’s preparing her two young children to spend multiple days on a boat. Promised a safe haven, the trio must cross a treacherous river to get there. The blindfolds help protect them from being manipulated by the force.

Bier’s “In a Better World” took home the honor for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2011 Oscars. She most recently directed award-winning spy series “The Night Manager.”

Bullock was last seen “Ocean’s Eight.” She won an Oscar for “The Blind Side” and received a nod for “Gravity.”

“Bird Box” hits select theaters in LA, NY, San Francisco, and London December 13 and launches on Netflix December 21 with an expanded theatrical release. Check out the trailer see how birds will help Malorie and her kids survive their harrowing journey.
