Sarah Lancashire is going from solving crimes in Yorkshire to revolutionizing home cooking stateside. The “Happy Valley” actress toplines “Julia,” an HBO Max series inspired by Julia Child. A new trailer for the series about the trailblazer behind “The French Chef” has been released.
“At this stage of my life, I want to feel relevant,” Julia explains. She pitches an educational cooking show that’ll host. Not everyone is sold on the idea. “Shouldn’t we go with someone with a more camera-friendly look and a less distinctive sound?” a male TV exec asks.
But Julia refuses to take no for an answer, and persists, ultimately getting a green light from a public television station in Boston. “The French Chef” goes on the air — and Julia becomes a star.
Lancashire will reprise her role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood in “Happy Valley’s” long-awaited third and final season. Sally Wainwright’s crime drama is slated to return this year.
“Julia” debuts on HBO Max March 31.
