HBO will air the ninth and final episode of “The Vow” this Sunday, but viewers interested in continuing their NXIVM studies are in luck: Starz has a docuseries about the headline-making cult on the way. The network just released a trailer for “Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult.”
“My name is India. I was in a cult for seven years,” says India Oxenberg in the spot. The daughter of “Dynasty” actress Catherine Oxenberg and a descendant of European royalty, India features prominently in “The Vow.” She takes center stage in the Starz project, which recalls how NXIVM indoctrinated and ultimately enslaved her.
“When I was a child, I felt very loved, but I grew up looking for a more purposeful life,” India explains in the trailer. “NXIVM was a program to make people’s lives better.” Described as “the most horrific cult leader,” Keith Raniere was initially someone India “really trusted.”
As India become further and further entrenched in the group, she eventually found herself in Women in DOS, a secret master-slave society within NXIVM that saw women sex-trafficked and branded with a cauterizing iron. “I can’t tell you how much guilt I feel,” India’s mother emphasizes. “My daughter has been in the presence of such evil.”
“Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult” premieres on Starz October 18. The project hails from Cecilia Peck (“Brave Miss World”) and Inbal B. Lessner.
