Selina Meyer has set her sights on the Oval Office once again in “Veep’s” seventh and final season. The former senator, VP, and prez (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) wants to lead the American people — even though her opinion of them is as low as ever. “This entire country is getting more disgusting by the second,” she remarks in a new trailer.
With the help of her occasionally-loyal team, including Amy (Anna Chlumsky), Gary (Tony Hale), Kent (Gary Cole), and Dan (Reid Scott), Selina will face off against fuckup intern-turned-politician Jonah (Timothy Simons) for President of the United States. And as ridiculous as Selina’s campaign is, Jonah’s is positively Trumpian. “You have the second-lowest vaccination rate in the nation,” he tells the crowd at a rally. “When I’m president, you will be number one!”
Selina has seen her share of setbacks and humiliations over the years, but defeating Jonah should be a cakewalk, right? Turns out it’s not. “There was a culture of blame which made people feel unsafe expressing criticisms,” Amy says, describing one of Team Meyer’s many organizational problems. “What? What dumb asshole said that?” Selina snaps.
From 2012-2017 Louis-Dreyfus won six consecutive best comedy actress Emmys for her portrayal of Selina. “Veep” has picked up three statuettes for best comedy series, and Chlumsky has received five nominations for best supporting actress, comedy.
The final season of “Veep” premieres March 31 on HBO.
