A fictional feature that tracks star, co-writer, and producer Selina Ringel’s real-life pregnancy, “Single Mother by Choice” tells the story of an overachieving, workaholic Latinx woman who decides to become a mother on her own terms. Eva (Ringel) is ready to have a baby and doesn’t want a partner. She’s ready to get pregnant — but she’s not ready for 2020.
A new trailer for “Single Mother by Choice” sees Eva struggling to adjust to life in the age of COVID-19. She never anticipated wearing an N95 mask while in labor. Her best friend and roommate (Brittany S. Hall) also seems to be in the midst of major life changes. “Are you just not going to come home?” Eva asks.
Set to debut on HBO Max November 2, “Single Mother by Choice” is directed by Dan Levy Dagerman, Ringel’s husband. In addition to COVID-19, the film also depicts Black Lives Matter protests.
