Trailer Watch: Shailene Woodley Travels Beyond the Wall in ‘The Divergent Series: Allegiant’

Shailene Woodley is back in action-heroine mode. A teaser has been released for “Allegiant,” the latest chapter of “The Divergent Series,” and the clip takes us right back to the beginning of her character Tris’s emotional and eventful journey. The trip down memory lane includes Tris’s life-changing discovery that she is Divergent, and how this classification makes her a threat to the oppressive system governing her post-apocalyptic society. We also relive the teen’s decision to wage war against her leaders.

It’s not until about halfway through the spot, though, that we see any footage for “Allegiant,” when we’re treated to a glimpse of Tris and Co. scaling the wall enclosing Chicago. Of course, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side — in fact, it actually looks violet, and while the view from the top doesn’t make the world beyond the wall look very inviting, Tris insists, “There’s no turning back.” Tris may have escaped Chicago, but the world outside it is also embroiled in war. The fight to save humanity wages on. Cue guns, explosions, slow motion action shots and, of course, kissing.

“Allegiant,” the third and penultimate installment of the “Divergent” franchise, will open in theaters March 18, 2016. The final film of the series, “Ascendant,” is slated for release March 24, 2017.
