Trailer Watch: Sharon & Rob Duke it Out in “Catastrophe” Season 3

“Catastrophe”

Last season of “Catastrophe” saw everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed couple in a pretty depressing state. Rob’s (Rob Delaney) workplace flirtation took a vicious turn and he ended up losing his job. And Sharon (Sharon Horgan) may or may not have slept with another man — but she definitely got blackout drunk on a revenge bender. Luckily, a trailer for Season 3 of the romantic comedy with claws reveals that these two aren’t done with each other quite yet.

After blaming her bad behavior on Brexit and Trump, a contrite Sharon offers to sleep on the couch while she and Rob sort things out. “Or we could sleep in the same bed,” she says, “but just, you know, head to toe?”

No,” Rob blanches. “I don’t want you to lacerate my face with your White Walker toenails.” Even when they fight, Sharon and Rob riff better than any other couple on TV.

Working on their marriage isn’t the only obstacle the two will face in the upcoming season of the series, which Horgan and Delaney co-created. The trailer gives us a glimpse of Carrie Fisher, who plays Rob’s gambling, inappropriate mother, Mia. Fisher died last December, and it seems likely that the show will deal with it directly.

“Catastrophe” has already received a fourth season from Amazon and Channel 4, where it airs in the UK. Horgan and Delaney, who write every episode together, were nominated for an Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series Emmy in 2016.

Horgan’s comedy series “Motherland” was given a full-season order by the BBC last fall. The six half-hour episodes explore the ups and downs of motherhood and stars Anna Maxwell Martin (“The Bletchley Circle”), Diane Morgan (Thea Sharrock’s “Me Before You”), and Lucy Punch (Lorene Scafaria’s “The Meddler”). Horgan also created HBO’s Sarah Jessica Parker-starrer “Divorce,” currently in production for its second season.

Season 3 of “Catastrophe” will be available on Amazon April 28. The full trailer is below, as is a promotional video which sees Horgan and Delaney playing the Newlywed Game.
