Trailer Watch: Sleeping with the Fishes Captures La Vida Loca in a Latino-Jewish Family

I Love Lucy debuted over 60 years ago, and yet there are still so few movies and TV shows about mixed-race families, especially from a female POV.

Writer-director Nicole Gomez Fisher helps fill in that gap with her debut picture, a Brooklyn-set comedy about a young widow named Alexis Fisher (Gina Rodriguez, Filly Brown) who moves back in with her Jewish dad (Tibor Feldman) and Latina mom (Tony winner Priscilla Lopez).

Working as a phone-sex operator and a walking meatball sub, Alexis regains her footing with the help of her sister Kayla (Ana Ortiz) and a new love on the horizon (Steven Strait).

Sleeping with the Fishes will open October 7.
