A self-described “boring 17-year-old white girl” who is “not special” discovers that she’s actually extraordinary in a new trailer for “I Am Not Okay With This.” The upcoming Netflix series sees Sophia Lillis (“It,” “Sharp Objects”) playing Sydney, a highschooler struggling to keep her cool amidst major life changes.
“I keep losing my temper. I don’t want to, but it just spills out,” she says in the spot, which shows her acting out at school. Sydney’s dad died last spring, and ever since, everything has been different.
Suspicious that something “might be wrong” with her, Sydney chalks up the changes to “puberty,” and her BFF (Sofia Bryant, “The Good Wife”) reassures her by telling her that “everybody feels like a freak sometimes.” But as it soon becomes clear, Sydney is a freak — she has superpowers. Her teen angst is amplified by her telekinetic powers.
“Dear diary, what the hell is going on with me?” Sydney asks.
An adaptation of Charles Forsman’s graphic novel of the same names, “I Am Not Okay With This” is created by Christy Hall and Jonathan Entwisle. The superhero origin story hits Netflix February 26.
