“The Blackwoods have always lived in this house — and we will never leave here, no matter what they say, or what they do to us. Never,” says Taissa Farmiga in a trailer for “We Have Always Lived in the Castle.” Stacie Passon’s latest sees the “American Horror Story” actress playing Merricat Blackwood, a young woman who lives in a manor as creepy as it is grand along with her sister Constance (Alexandra Daddario) and uncle Julian (Crispin Glover).
The girls’ father died under mysterious circumstances, leading townspeople to suspect that he may have been a victim of foul play, and that his daughters could be witches.
The arrival — and unexpected extended stay — of a cousin (Sebastian Stan) leads to family secrets and scandals unraveling.
Passon made her feature debut with 2013 award-winner “Concussion.” Her TV credits include “Transparent,” “The Affair,” and “Billions.” She recently signed on to helm a six-part series inspired by “Little Birds,” Anaïs Nin’s 1979 collection of erotic short stories.
Based on Shirley Jackson’s 1962 novel of the same name, “We Have Always Lived in the Castle” hits VOD and theaters May 17.
