Trailer Watch: Students Demand More Than Thoughts and Prayers in “After Parkland”

"After Parkland": Tribeca Film Festival

A new trailer for “After Parkland” asks how you can “make sense of the senseless.” The doc tells the story of the families of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, who are left grieving and desperate for policy change following a national tragedy.

Filmmakers Emily Taguchi (“The Atomic Artist”) and Jake Lefferman travel to Parkland, Florida, to speak with the students and parents whose lives were forever changed on February 14, 2018, when a former student entered the school and, using a semiautomatic AR-15 assault rifle, killed 17 people.

“Imagine getting in a plane crash, surviving, and getting on the same plane everyday, where the one issue that caused it isn’t fixed,” says David Hogg, referring to gun violence. We see the Marjory Stoneman Douglas alumni and activist taking the stage, demanding action from the federal government — thoughts and prayers won’t suffice.

“After Parkland” made its world premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and hits select theaters November 29.
