“How are you with confined spaces?” Suranne Jones is asked in a new trailer for “Vigil.” The thriller sees the “Gentleman Jack” actress playing Amy Silva, a detective tasked with investigating the death of a sailor on board a nuclear submarine. Originally written off as an accidental overdose, it quickly becomes apparent that the death is the result of foul play.
When Amy is assigned the case, she’s adamant that a detective she knows and trusts, Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie, “Game of Thrones”) joins her. It’s not long before Amy and Kirsten conclude that the sailor has been murdered, and the crime may be part of a bigger plot. “This is a coordinated attack,” Kirsten insists.
Jones’ “Gentleman Jack” has been renewed for a second season by HBO but no word on a premiere date yet. Created by Sally Wainwright, the historical drama is set in 1832 and tells the story of Anne Lister, a trailblazing lesbian landowner. “Doctor Foster,” “Save Me,” and “Scott & Bailey” are among Jones’ other credits.
“Vigil” was a huge ratings hit in the U.K., where it aired on BBC One. The series drops on Peacock December 23.
