A man (Logan Marshall-Green) fears that his estranged ex-wife and her new husband have invited him to their home for suspicious reasons in Karyn Kusama’s “The Invitation.”
The newly released trailer for the thriller promises paranoia, blood, and no escape. Kusama previously directed “Girlfight,” “Aeon Flux” and “Jennifer’s Body.”
The second project by Gamechanger Films, “The Invitation” opened the the 2015 SXSW Festival and will be distributed by Drafthouse Films.
In an interview with Women and Hollywood about “The Invitation,” Kusama said of her fourth feature, “This movie made me think about the paranoid thrillers of the ’70s that I love, movies that leave the viewer with more questions than answers. I was interested in the discomfort and dread I felt when I first read [Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi’s] script — those feelings put me in touch with the discomfort and dread I sometimes unwittingly carry around in my daily life. The story is an exploration of those tendrils of emotion and an example of our worst fears blowing up into a nightmare, which felt very cinematic to me.”
“The Invitation” will open in theaters and on VOD on April 8.
