Trailer Watch: The Ladies Have a New Boss in “Claws” Season 2

"Claws"

Desna (Niecy Nash) outlines a simple plan in the trailer for “Claws'” sophomore season: “I just want to live the dream: have a chain of nail salons, and take care of my brother and my girls.” “We are going to take our rightful place in this world,” she vows to her friends and co-workers Jennifer (Jenn Lyon), Polly (Carrie Preston), Quiet Ann (Judy Reyes), and Virginia (Karrueche Tran).

Unfortunately, fate throws a wrench into Desna’s plan. The ladies — who run a South Florida nail salon/money laundering racket — are answering to a new (crime) boss in Season 2. Played by “Run Lola Run’s” Franka Potente, the boss is equally fond of hugs and intimidation tactics. Desna and her friends are understandably freaked out. “Our new boss, she’s putting a lot of pressure on us,” Polly stammers in the spot, ” …to do more nails.” Cut to Potente’s character brandishing a gun.

Still, Desna isn’t giving up her dream so easily. She knows she made a Faustian pact when she decided to try her hand at organized crime, but she’s willing to do what she has to to live the life she’s always wanted. “World domination, baby,” Desna quips, “one manicure at a time.”

“Claws” returns June 10 on TNT. Janine Sherman Barrois serves as showrunner. She and Rashida Jones are among the series’ executive producers.
