Trailer Watch: “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Makes It to the Big Leagues in Season 3

"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"

Midge Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) is leaving New York’s dingy comedy scene behind for a national tour in Season 3 of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” “This is the big leagues, kid. Gotta start acting like professionals,” her manager, Susie (Alex Borstein), reminds her in a new trailer.

The rising stand-up has landed a gig opening for singer Shy Baldwin (Leroy McClain) and the upcoming season sees her touring with him in gorgeous venues in Los Angeles, Vegas, Chicago, Miami, and more.

Her parents are fine with the Shy Baldwin part of their daughter’s career (“I love you, Shy Baldwin!” Midge’s thrilled mother screams at a concert), but they’re still iffy on the whole comedy thing.

“I am not a prostitute — I’m a comic,” Midge emphasizes in the spot. “Is there a difference?” her mother, Rose (Marin Hinkle), wonders. “Yes, prostitutes get paid more,” Midge says.

While Midge seems to enjoy her cross-country adventure, she’s a little insecure about performing in front of such huge crowds — and feels guilty for leaving her children and ex (Michael Zegen) behind in NYC. A new comic friend (Liza Weil) encourages her to fully embrace her work. “You see the world,” she says. “The audiences, when they’re great, are really great, and you’re not having to go to your grave not having done anything interesting.”

Last month, Borstein won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Susie. Jane Lynch took home the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series prize for playing Midge’s comedy frenemy Sophie Lennon. The series received another six trophies and was up for 20 awards overall.

Season 3 of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” drops on Amazon Prime December 6.
