Trailer Watch: The Pfeffermans Sing Through Their Grief in “Transparent’s” Musical Finale

"Transparent"

“What is it going to be like, now that she’s not here?” The Pfeffermans are left contemplating life without Maura (Jeffrey Tambor) in the musical season finale of “Transparent.” A trailer just dropped for the feature-length project and sees the family dealing with Maura’s death and what comes next, beginning a “journey hilarious and melancholy, brazen and bold. As they face this new transition, they confront grief and come together to celebrate connection, joy, and transformation,” according to the ep’s official synopsis.

“Maura is not replaceable,” Shelly (Judith Light) says in the spot. She’s preserving her former partner’s memory and celebrating her life by putting on a play about the Pfefferman family.

Since its premiere in 2014, “Transparent” has received a number of prestigious awards, including two directing Emmys for its creator, Jill Soloway. Soloway based the series on their own parent coming out as trans.

Tambor was let go from the series after he was accused of sexual harassment on set.

Soloway is signed on to write and direct “Red Sonja,” a comic adaptation about a female warrior. “I can really have so much fun with Red Sonja. I see her a little bit more like the first kind of bad girl superhero,” Soloway told Deadline. “Sort of like the Batman of ‘The Dark Knight’ or ‘Deadpool,’ you know? The world is changing so much right now for superheroes, that I just really look forward to not only going to the edge of what I’ve ever written and directed before, but to the edge of the genre as well.”

The “Transparent” musical finale debuts on Amazon Prime September 27.
